The official page is checked automatically when this tool is requested, normally no more than once every six hours at each serving location. Each successful refresh reads the published table again, including revisions at the same article address. The last successful check is never renewed by a failed request.
If a refresh fails, a previously validated edition may remain usable for up to 72 hours after its last successful check, with a saved-edition warning. A changed or conflicting source table is withheld immediately. Editions 60 days old or older are also withheld. These are Contifield freshness safeguards, not official legal expiry dates.
Multiply litres by the selected published price to estimate cost, or divide a budget by that price to estimate litres. Costs round to two decimal places, half up; litre results display up to six decimal places. A CSV result includes the source URL, scope, currency, effective date and source-check status.
