SHA-256 file checksum

Calculate a SHA-256 checksum locally in chunks and compare it with an expected digest.

Runs on your device · No upload

Files up to 2 GiB. Processing time depends on your device and browser. Keep the tab open until the result appears. No file contents are sent to Contifield.

Ready when JavaScript is loaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose a file from your device.
  2. Optionally paste the expected 64-character checksum from a trusted publisher.
  3. Calculate the digest and compare the result. You can cancel while the file is being processed.

Hash the file bytes without uploading them

SHA-256 maps the exact bytes of a file to a 64-character hexadecimal digest. This tool reads the file in 1 MiB chunks, updates the hash locally, and displays progress. A filename change does not affect the hash, but changing a single byte normally does.

What a matching checksum means

A match confirms that your file has the expected SHA-256 digest. The expected value must come from a trusted source. A checksum by itself does not identify the author, prove a download is safe, or replace a digital signature.

This tool computes a file hash, not a password hash or HMAC. It does not alter or decrypt the file.

Your input stays in this tab

Files and pasted values are processed in your browser. They are not uploaded, stored in your URL or saved to browser storage. Download the result if you want to keep it. CSV exports are limited to 1,000,000 cells and 20 MiB; large or sparse tables must be split. The site records aggregate page requests as described in the privacy policy.
