URL percent encoder and decoder

Encode or decode a URL component or form value with an explicit choice between percent-space and plus-space behavior.

Runs in your browser. Inputs stay on this page and are not uploaded or added to the URL.

Up to 100,000 characters. This operates on one value, not a complete URL.

How to use this tool

Use URL-component mode for a single path or query value with encodeURIComponent semantics. Use form-value mode for application/x-www-form-urlencoded behavior, where spaces become plus signs. A literal plus is encoded as %2B.

Decoding is strict: malformed percent escapes and invalid UTF-8 are reported as errors. In component mode, a plus stays a plus; in form mode it becomes a space. The tool does not navigate to URLs or encode a complete URL while preserving its separators.

Worked example

In component mode, a b+c → a%20b%2Bc. In form mode, the same text → a+b%2Bc.
