Method and limits
Body surface area is estimated from height (cm) and weight (kg).
Mosteller (1987): BSA = √(height × weight / 3600)
DuBois (1916): BSA = 0.007184 × weight^0.425 × height^0.725
Haycock (1978): BSA = 0.024265 × weight^0.5378 × height^0.3964Assumptions and limits
- The formulas were derived from small measured samples; they diverge in very tall, short or heavy people.
- This page reports surface area only and does not calculate any dose.
Worked example
80 kg and 180 cm give 2.00 m² by Mosteller (√(180 × 80 / 3600) = √4), 2.00 m² by DuBois (1.996) and 2.01 m² by Haycock.
