Numbers and measurement

Decimal to fraction converter

Convert a finite decimal to an exact reduced fraction, with mixed-number output when applicable and no rounding guess.

Runs in your browser. Inputs stay on this page and are not uploaded or added to the URL.

Use a decimal point and at most 80 digits. Repeating notation and scientific notation are not supported.

How to use this tool

Enter a finite decimal to write it as an integer divided by a power of ten, then reduce both terms by their greatest common divisor. Negative values and leading or trailing zeroes are handled exactly.

The result represents precisely what you entered. It does not infer that 0.3333 is a rounded recurring decimal, so that input becomes 3333/10000. Use at most 80 digits in total and no thousands separators.

Worked example

0.125 = 1/8. −2.75 = −11/4, or −2 3/4.
